Moshood Abiola National Stadium Closed Over Security Threat

The management of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja announced an immediate, indefinite closure of the facility after receiving a credible security threat from the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters. All entry points were ordered shut from the night of August 3, 2026, and no individuals are permitted to enter until further directives are issued. Security personnel have been deployed around the complex to enforce the restriction and ensure public safety.

The precautionary measure affects athletes, football clubs, fitness enthusiasts, sports officials and the general public who regularly use the stadium for training and events. Officials did not disclose the nature of the threat but emphasized that the closure aims to protect lives and property. The stadium, built in 2003, is Nigeria’s premier sports venue, hosting national and international competitions, and its shutdown is expected to disrupt scheduled sporting activities.
