Mosquito Control Efforts Launched in Los Cabos and Argentina to Combat Dengue

The municipal government of Los Cabos, Mexico, began a five‑month fumigation program to curb the Aedes aegypti mosquito that spreads dengue. The initiative, announced by interim mayor José Manuel Larumbe Pineda, will sweep designated neighborhoods each weekday starting 6 July, with teams visiting colonies such as El Panteón, Fuentes del Paraíso and Cabo Fierro. Officials urged residents to keep patios clean and eliminate water‑holding containers to support the effort.

Meanwhile, Argentina’s Ministry of Health launched a winter‑season plan to monitor and eliminate Aedes aegypti breeding sites across the country. Using oviposition sensors and larval indices, health workers inspected more than 50,000 homes and removed 10,740 potential mosquito habitats in the 2025‑2026 season, focusing on the NOA, NEA and Central regions. The program includes training courses for entomological surveillance and aims to keep dengue risk low despite nearby chikungunya outbreaks and El Niño‑related climate factors.
