Mosquito prevention and natural repellents during the dry season
Mosquito populations can increase during the dry season because hot and humid weather accelerates their life cycle. Despite the lack of rain, mosquitoes continue to breed in stagnant water found in bathtubs, used tires, flower vases, bottles, gutters, and buckets.
To mitigate the risk of diseases such as dengue fever, it is recommended to maintain cleanliness by checking potential breeding sites like bathrooms, kitchens, sinks, and clogged gutters. Regular cleaning, sweeping, and trimming thick foliage can help eliminate hiding spots.
As an alternative to chemical repellents, which may impact respiratory health, natural ingredients can be used to repel mosquitoes. Effective natural options include citronella (lemongrass), lavender, basil, and citrus peels, which contain scents or compounds that mosquitoes avoid.
