Mossos d'Esquadra assist Andorra in fatal Encamp crash investigation
Catalan Mossos d'Esquadra officers have collaborated with Andorran police to investigate a fatal traffic accident that occurred on August 1 in Encamp. The collision, involving three vehicles, resulted in the death of a 74-year-old woman and left four others injured.
Following a request from the Andorran Criminal Court, specialized units from the Alt Pirineu i Aran region traveled to the Principality to perform technical procedures. This marks the first time such cooperation has occurred between the two police forces. Agents focused on the disassembly and preservation of the Airbag Control Module (ACM) from one of the vehicles, a device described as acting like an airplane's black box to reconstruct accident dynamics.
Preliminary data extraction using the Crash Scan tool confirmed the presence of relevant information. The ACM will be analyzed by the Mossos' Central Accident Investigation Area to produce a technical expert report for the Andorran judicial authorities. A 36-year-old man, one of the drivers involved, was previously detained and charged with homicide by imprudence after testing positive for alcohol and allegedly driving at high speeds.
