Mossos d'Esquadra officers investigated for Riudoms shooting

Two Mossos d'Esquadra officers from the Special Intervention Group (GEI) are being investigated for their role in the shooting of Marin Eugen Sabau, known as the ‘Securitas gunman,’ in Riudoms.

A magistrate from the Reus Court has summoned the two officers to testify as investigated parties following findings of ‘probable criminal responsibility.’ The court's 16-page order suggests there are sufficient indications that the officers' actions were ‘uncontrolled, disproportionate and with a purpose that could have gone beyond neutralizing Mr. Sabau,’ potentially aiming to inflict severe physical injury. This resulted in spinal injuries that caused the loss of nearly all body mobility.

The judge noted contradictions between the officers' initial police statements and their subsequent testimony before the court. The investigation seeks to determine if the officers' response was justified by the hostility shown by Sabau or if it falls under the legal concept of ‘combat stress’ regarding self-defense.
