Most party proposes constitutional protection for water rights in Croatia

The political party Most has announced an initiative to submit a constitutional amendment to the Croatian Parliament. The proposal aims to establish the right to clean and potable water as a fundamental right for every citizen.

Under the proposed changes, water resources would be managed exclusively by the state, and water supply services would be provided by public suppliers to prevent privatization. Party representatives Zvonimir Troskot and Nikola Grmoja emphasized that this move is a response to recent ecological issues in regions such as Lika, Gacka Valley, and Karlovac.

Most argues that water is an existential resource rather than a luxury or a mere product. The initiative seeks to create a stronger legislative framework to prevent environmental damage and ensure the protection of one of Europe’s largest drinking water basins for future generations.
