Mostar Archive commemorates historian Hivzija Hasandedić

The Archive of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton in Mostar organized a commemoration to mark the anniversary of the death of Hivzija Hasandedić (1915–2003). The event took place at the Sutina city cemetery, where Hasandedić is buried.

Hasandedić was a prominent archivist, orientalist, and historian whose work significantly contributed to the study of the cultural and historical heritage of Mostar and Herzegovina. His research spanned art history, theology, and ethnology, resulting in the publication of 426 bibliographic units.

Amir Kadribegović, Director of the Archive, emphasized that preserving the memory of Hasandedić’s work is a collective responsibility to protect the scientific and cultural heritage of the region. The Archive has organized several events in the past two years to honor his legacy, including forums in Sarajevo and Novi Pazar. Moving forward, the Archive has added October 19 to its regular calendar of activities to ensure the anniversary is observed annually.
