Mostar hosts Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools program

The Special Olympics Bosnia and Herzegovina, in collaboration with the City of Mostar and the Sports Association of the City of Mostar, hosted an event to expand the Special Olympics Unified Champion Schools® model. The program, held at the University of Džemal Bijedić Faculty of Education and the Mosport sports hall, brought together 120 participants.

The model focuses on creating inclusive school environments through three pillars: Unified Sports, which involves students with and without intellectual disabilities playing together; Inclusive Youth Leadership; and Whole-School Engagement. The initiative aims to foster community by encouraging students to take responsibility and build relationships within the school setting.

The event was organized as part of the ‘Moving Us Closer’ program and the sixth week of sustainable development in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Partners included UNFPA BiH and the Italian Embassy in BiH. Educational sessions were led by Kada Delić Selimović and Lejla Kafedžić, while the sporting portion featured participation from associations such as Los Rosales, Sunce Mostar, and the ZGNK Emina Mostar team.
