Mostar cemetery swine head incident provokes condemnation

On the morning of the scheduled 34th anniversary ceremony for the First Mostar Brigade, a severed swine head was left near the central monument in Liska park, the historic harem where Bosniak victims of the 1992 siege are buried. The act led organizers to cancel the event. Mayor Mario Kordić, police officials, federal representative Sanel Kajan and the veteran group JOB condemned the desecration as an attack on the dignity of the dead and called for a swift investigation and stronger protection, including fencing and monitoring of the site. Police received the report at 9:30 a.m., secured the area and notified the prosecutor’s office. Additional vandalism was reported, with crude crosses drawn on nearby monuments. The incident has sparked outrage across the community, with demands for accountability and measures to prevent future violations of the war‑time burial ground.
