Mostar presents solar energy potential study for public buildings

The City of Mostar has presented the results of a study titled “Solar Energy Potential Study on the Roofs of Public Buildings of the City of Mostar.” The study, conducted by nLogic Sarajevo, evaluated the roofs of 202 public buildings covering approximately 71,000 square meters.

The findings indicate a technical potential of roughly 4,900 kWp, which could generate about 6,800 MWh of electricity annually. The report proposes installing solar power plants for self-consumption on 76 selected public buildings, which could result in annual electricity bill savings of approximately 551,000 KM.

Project leader Darko Knezović emphasized the importance of this document for the city's energy transition. He noted that the city aims to utilize its significant rooftop potential and mentioned the upcoming “Project Apollo,” which has 500,000 KM in secured funding. Initial phases include creating a covered parking area at the City Council to provide electricity for the “Moj svijet” school for children with developmental disabilities, a soup kitchen, and the City Council itself. Other planned sites include the National Theater Mostar and a center for the elderly.
