Mostar secures kindergarten subsidies via Croatian government funding

Mostar Mayor Mario Kordić has announced that kindergarten subsidies for the remainder of the year have been secured through 380,000 euros in financial support from the Government of the Republic of Croatia. This temporary solution follows a political deadlock in the Mostar City Council, where the absence of SDA council members prevented the necessary 24 votes required for a technical budget rebalance.

The funding was secured following discussions with Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković and Minister Alen Ružić, with support from Darijana Filipović, a representative in the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH. Kordić stated that the funds should be sufficient to maintain the subsidies until the new budget is adopted for 2027.

To utilize the approved funds, a new City Council session is not required; instead, the process will be finalized by signing an agreement in Zagreb. Kordić criticized the political blockade, characterizing it as an abuse of the consociational governance model and an attempt to use children and parents as political leverage.
