Mostar's JP Komunalno fires 22 Bosniak workers, union seeks reversal

The Trade Union of Communal Workers of the Herzegovina‑Neretva Canton, representing dismissed employees, demanded the immediate annulment of the termination decision affecting 22 field workers at the public utility JP Komunalno in Mostar. The union alleges that a cantonal labour inspection found numerous procedural irregularities in the disciplinary process, including accusations of ethnic discrimination and the division of staff along national lines. Union president Fikret Dedović said one of the dismissed employees, Edin Zukić, was removed while on sick leave after suffering a heart attack.

The issue is on the agenda of the upcoming Mostar City Council meeting, and the local community of Drežnica organized a protest convoy to the city hall, urging solidarity among Bosniak workers and condemning attempts to treat them as a "second‑class" citizen. The union has appealed to the cantonal labour inspectorate, as well as federal and state authorities, to review the dismissals.
