Mota-Engil consortium eyes two new Brazilian highway concessions after Rota dos Sertões win

The consortium formed by Portuguese builder Mota‑Engil, Odebrecht (through Nova Infra Invest) and Galápagos secured the Rota dos Sertões auction in May, offering a nearly 20% discount on the base toll. The concession covers about 429 km of BR‑116 in Bahia, 66 km in Pernambuco and a 7.2 km stretch of BR‑324/BA that forms part of the Feira de Santana ring road, with a planned duplication of 108 km on BR‑116.

Following the victory, the partners are targeting two additional federal highway concessions slated for the 2026 pipeline. Brazil’s Transport Ministry plans roughly 11 more auctions this year, with the next one – the Régis Bittencourt concession – scheduled for 23 July. Other projects expected to reach the market include Rota 2 de Julho, Rota Planalto Sul, the Transbrasiliana, Rota do Pequi and Rota Portuária Sul. Mota‑Engil, which holds a stake from China’s CCCC, previously won the PPP tunnel Santos‑Guarujá and is negotiating the purchase of the Fiol rail line.
