Mota-Engil faces supplier setbacks on Portugal's high‑speed rail and Lisbon Metro projects

The consortium of Spanish builders Ferrovial, FCC and Acciona withdrew its proposal for the Oiã‑Soure segment of the planned Lisbon‑Porto high‑speed rail line. The tender now only pits the consortia of Sacyr and Mota‑Engil, with a base price of €1.6 billion.

Mota‑Engil’s consortium for the new Violet line of the Lisbon Metro lost its second supplier when Polish manufacturer PESA pulled out, following the earlier exclusion of Chinese CRRC by the European Commission over subsidy concerns. Mota‑Engil must now secure a third supplier from among two other European firms to provide the 12 light‑rail vehicles for the Odivelas‑Loures stretch, a contract valued at €598.9 million approved after the CRRC removal.
