Mota-Engil México wins contract to renovate Metro Line 3

Mota-Engil México has been awarded the contract for the comprehensive renovation of Line 3 of the Mexico City Metro. The project, which runs from Indios Verdes to Universidad, involves a technical and financial co-investment aimed at modernizing the entire route.

The scope of work includes the replacement of all tracks, the incorporation of 45 new trains, and the modernization of electrical, control, and signaling systems. The winning proposal from Mota-Engil was approximately 43% more economical than the competing bid from an ICA Constructora-led group.

The financial details indicate that the winning bid amounts to 25,180.4 million pesos for availability and operation payments. This figure covers civil works, track renewal, and railway systems, though it does not include the cost of rolling stock or the entity's own contributions, which will be defined in later phases. Major construction works are scheduled to begin in 2027, with no station closures planned for 2026.

Additionally, the Mexico City Government reported that the Secretary of Works and Services (SOBSE) is conducting permanent maintenance at the Jardín Flotante to ensure the preservation of its infrastructure and fountains. Regarding the park's elevators, the government has initiated economic sanction proceedings against the contractor for failing to complete works within the established deadlines.
