Mota‑Engil negotiates 40% stake purchase in Brazil's Odebrecht

Portugal's construction conglomerate Mota‑Engil is in advanced talks to acquire a 40% share of Odebrecht Engenharia & Construção, the Brazilian builder that generated over R$5 billion in revenue in 2024. The deal could give Mota‑Engil access to a pipeline of projects worth about US$37 billion through 2032, spanning Brazil, Angola and the United States. Sources say the transaction is still subject to due‑diligence and has no formal announcement yet. Mota‑Engil previously integrated Brazil's ECB contractor and is also pursuing the Bahia Mineração (Bamin) assets, valued at roughly €5 billion, while Vale has stepped back from competing for the same assets.

Odebrecht confirmed that the prospect of a strategic partner fits its post‑restructuring business plan, but it has not received a concrete offer and will only comment when a formal proposal is on the table. The companies have a long history of joint infrastructure projects in Brazil and Africa, and the potential partnership would create one of the largest engineering platforms in the region.
