Mother and daughter drown in Kolhu River, Uttarakhand

A tragic accident occurred in the Kolhu River near Kotdwar, Uttarakhand, resulting in the deaths of a 26-year-old mother and her 1.5-year-old daughter.

The incident took place on September 1 while Jenam was returning from her parental home in Bijnor. While attempting to cross the river, which was flowing strongly, her daughter, Afia, slipped from her arms and was swept away by the current. In an attempt to save her child, Jenam also entered the water but was caught in the rapid flow.

Local residents attempted to assist, but the strength of the river made rescue efforts difficult. Local police and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) were deployed to conduct a search operation. Both the mother and daughter were eventually recovered from the river by the SDRF teams.
