Mother Dairy official acquitted in CBI bribery case

A Delhi court has acquitted Mother Dairy official Sanjay Sharma in a bribery case involving an alleged demand of Rs 60,000 from a milk distributor. The Rouse Avenue Court ruled that the prosecution failed to prove the case beyond reasonable doubt.

Special CBI Judge Vijeta Singh Rawat cited significant procedural lapses by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The court noted that the investigating officer failed to comply with several rules of the CBI Crime Manual, including failing to record the Superintendent of Police's order for the investigation, neglecting to document vehicle registration numbers and drivers used during trap proceedings, and failing to record the complainant's language.

The judge highlighted that the lack of proper endorsement and registration numbers for the complaint lent credence to defense claims that evidence manipulation could not be ruled out.
