Mother identified as sole suspect in stabbing death of 14-year-old daughter

The Dutch Public Prosecution Service has named 59-year-old Fouzia R. as the sole person responsible for the violent death of her 14-year-old daughter, Nour. The stabbing occurred on April 20 at a residence on Elzenstraat in the Blerick district of Venlo.

During a second preliminary hearing at the Roermond court, the defendant was once again absent. While the girl's father was initially detained by police, the Public Prosecution Service stated he is no longer considered a suspect. Fouzia R. has confessed to killing her daughter, though a motive remains unknown as interrogating the suspect has proven nearly impossible.

The victim was discovered on her mother's bed, bound at the wrists and ankles with tape, and had tape applied to her neck and mouth. A sister of the victim was present in the home during the incident and reported being awakened by screaming. The defendant will undergo observation at the Pieter Baan Center as part of a personality assessment. The next preliminary hearing is scheduled for January 15.
