Mother of autistic boy faces threats in Castaños, Mexico
Emma López, mother of an eight‑year‑old boy diagnosed with autism, reported a series of threats and verbal abuse after publicly denouncing a neighbor in the Independencia colonia of Castaños. The neighbor allegedly called the child “loco,” “tarado mental,” and threatened to throw hot water at him. López filed a complaint with the local public prosecutor and said the neighbor’s husband was briefly detained, but intimidation continued.
The mother said she also received online threats, prompting her to delete her Facebook account and consider moving with her two children for safety. She plans to return to the prosecutor’s office with additional evidence of the recent threats. López emphasized the need for respect and empathy toward children with disabilities.
Authorities have been involved, but López claims the harassment persists despite police intervention.
