MotherDuck launches Japan region to support enterprise AI agents

MotherDuck and ActiveCore have announced the general availability of the MotherDuck Japan region, effective September 1, 2026. This launch allows enterprise companies in Japan to utilize the serverless analytical data warehouse while keeping data stored domestically, addressing constraints related to the Act on the Protection of Personal Information (APPI) and internal corporate regulations regarding overseas data transfers.

MotherDuck, which provides a cloud-based version of the open-source DuckDB engine, is designed to support the transition from generative AI chat to autonomous AI agents. The platform features a unique architecture called ‘Hypertenancy,’ which assigns dedicated DuckDB instances to individual users or AI agents to ensure isolated execution environments and prevent query interference.

Additionally, MotherDuck supports the Model Context Protocol (MCP), enabling AI agents to safely generate and execute SQL from natural language. ActiveCore has integrated MotherDuck as the foundation for its marketing AI agent service, ‘marutto1to1,’ to facilitate governed and scalable data utilization for enterprises.
