Mothers’ Union celebrates 150 years with commemorative services

Members and supporters of the Mothers’ Union have held various services to commemorate the organization’s 150th anniversary.

In Manchester, a special service was held at Manchester Cathedral on Mary Sumner Day. The event included the commissioning of two new trustees by the Bishop of Middleton and featured a visual display of illustrated jigsaw pieces representing the contributions of various local branches to the worldwide movement.

In Ireland, an All-Ireland Holy Communion Service took place at St Mary’s Church in Castlecomer, Co. Kilkenny. The service brought together members from five dioceses, including Cashel, Ferns and Ossory; Dublin and Glendalough; Meath and Kildare; Cork, Cloyne and Ross; and Kilmore, Elphin and Ardagh. Reflections during the service highlighted the 150-year history of the organization and the long-standing commitment of the Castlecomer Branch, which was established in 1928.
