Motherwell manager Alfred Johansson guides team to early victories

Alfred Johansson took over as Motherwell manager this summer after Jens Berthel Askou departed for Toulouse. He inherited a squad that had lost key forwards Elijah Just, Elliot Watt and Callum Ward, who moved to Swansea City, Samsunspor and QPR respectively. Despite the departures, Johansson has overseen a strong start, with a 2‑1 win over Hibernian and a 5‑0 aggregate victory against HB Torshavn, marking the club's third win of the season.

Eight players made their league debuts in the Hibernian match, including new signings such as centre‑back Martin Moormann and midfielder Jake Girdwood‑Reich, while loan signing Alex Lowry has been likened to former stars Just, Watt and Tawanda Maswanhise. Johansson highlighted the club’s financial boost from recent player sales, which will fund further squad strengthening and upgrades to the stadium and training facilities under chief executive Brian Caldwell.
