Mothobi Mvala returns to Mamelodi Sundowns after injury recovery

Mamelodi Sundowns defender Mothobi Mvala has returned to competitive action following a lengthy absence caused by a knee injury that required surgery. The 32-year-old centre-back described the rehabilitation process as more difficult than expected, noting the emotional stress and uncertainty regarding his ability to return to his previous performance level.

Mvala missed significant milestones during his recovery, including the Africa Cup of Nations and the FIFA World Cup with Bafana Bafana, as well as Mamelodi Sundowns' recent CAF Champions League success. He credited his positive mindset to the support of his family, the club's medical staff, and teammate Lebo Mothiba, who provided guidance after experiencing similar injuries.

Under head coach Miguel Cardoso, Mvala has begun regaining his place in the starting lineup, completing two full matches since his return. His comeback arrives as his contract approaches expiry and ahead of the CAF Super Cup final against USM Alger.
