Motion raises $2M to expand humanoid robot deployments
Brussels-based robotics company Motion has secured $2 million in pre-seed funding to expand its Humanoids-as-a-Service (HaaS) platform. The funding round was led by Extantia Capital, with participation from Norrsken Evolve.
Motion offers humanoid robots to industrial, warehouse, and logistics companies via a subscription-based model. This approach aims to lower the financial and operational barriers to entry by providing a monthly fee that covers deployment, task training, IT integration, fleet management, insurance, and maintenance. The company utilizes a hardware-agnostic model, allowing clients to use various robots suited to specific tasks without being tied to a single manufacturer.
Currently, Motion is conducting five pilot programs in Belgium, where robots are being trained for tasks such as loading goods into crates, packing containers, and placing components on conveyor belts. The company intends to use the technology to address labor shortages in European manufacturing, though it notes that adoption is often hindered by financing, regulatory, and integration challenges rather than the technology itself.
