Filmmaker Guillermo del Toro told IGN he dislikes respawning in the roguelike action game Dead Cells, saying, “I just hate respawning, because you only get about 35 levels and then you start again… please do a version without respawning for the elderly players.”

The French studio Motion Twin responded, thanking del Toro for his praise and pointing out that Dead Cells already includes an “Assist Mode.” Introduced in version 2.9, Assist Mode lets players resurrect at the start of the current biome or the nearest checkpoint instead of restarting the entire run, and offers additional tweaks such as slower trap activation, longer parry windows, and an auto‑hit option.

Motion Twin said, “We’re surprised and truly honored to see that Mr. del Toro is a Dead Cells player, and we can even help him right now: there is an Assist mode in the game!” The studio highlighted the mode as a way to make the game more accessible for older or less‑hardcore players.
