Motiur Rahman shot Ziaur Rahman, interrogation reveals

During an interrogation by the International Crimes Tribunal's investigative agency, former military officer Mozaffar Hossain provided new details regarding the 1981 assassination of former President Ziaur Rahman. Hossain stated that Lieutenant Colonel (Retired) Motiur Rahman was the individual who directly shot Ziaur Rahman during the attack at the Chittagong Circuit House on May 30, 1981.

Additionally, Hossain revealed that the then Army Chief, Hussain Muhammad Ershad, had traveled to Chittagong by helicopter on May 28, 1981, just two days before the assassination occurred.

Hossain, who was arrested in Banani on July 15, underwent six hours of questioning on Sunday. He is also facing charges related to crimes against humanity committed during the July mass uprising. The tribunal prosecutor, Tanveer Hasan Zoha, confirmed that further interrogation of Hossain is scheduled for Monday.
