MotoGP Qatar 2026 faces boycott amid regional security concerns
The 2026 MotoGP Qatar Grand Prix is scheduled to take place from November 6 to 8 at the Lusail International Circuit. Originally planned for April, the event was rescheduled to November due to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
Yamaha has officially announced a boycott of the race, stating that the manufacturer will not participate due to internal company travel safety recommendations. This decision affects both the Monster Energy Yamaha factory team and the Pramac Yamaha satellite team. In response, MotoGP has reportedly threatened sporting sanctions against Yamaha and any riders who participate in the boycott.
While 19 riders previously signed a letter urging organizers to cancel the event or provide full liability guarantees, three riders—Marco Bezzecchi, Ai Ogura, and Johann Zarco—did not sign the document.
On the competitive front, Marc Marquez enters the weekend leading the championship standings with 399 points, holding a 44-point lead over Jorge Martin following his victory at the Sepang International Circuit.
