Motoharu Sano biography to be released by Kiyoshi Matsuo

A new biography titled ‘Motoharu Sano: The Reason for Continuing to Sing’ is scheduled for release by Kawade Shobo Shinsha on November 27, 2026. Written by music producer and writer Kiyoshi Matsuo, the book explores the 46-year career of Japanese pop musician Motoharu Sano.

Through extensive interviews and research into Sano’s lyrics, interviews, and social context, Matsuo examines Sano’s evolution from his 1980 debut to his recent 45th-anniversary tour. The biography also delves into Sano’s unique spoken word performances, which utilize free verse and music to create intimate spaces for his audience.

The book includes analytical dialogues regarding Sano’s past works, such as the 1985 song ‘Christmas Time in Blue,’ re-evaluating their relevance to contemporary global conflicts and social asymmetry.
