Motoki Ohmori cast as Showa-era singer in film ‘SUKIYAKI Ue o Muite Arukou’

Motoki Ohmori, the vocalist of Mrs. GREEN APPLE, has been cast in the upcoming film ‘SUKIYAKI Ue o Muite Arukou’ (Sukiyaki Upwardly Mobile). Ohmori will portray Hiroshi Mizuhara, a legendary Showa-era singer who won the first-ever Japan Record Award for the song ‘Kuroi Hanabira’.

Ohmori, who has won the Japan Record Award for three consecutive years with his band, will perform the song using a deep, dandy vocal style to capture the essence of the historical figure. The film, directed by Takahisa Zeze, explores the lives of the ‘689 Trio’—composer Hachidai Nakamura, lyricist Rokusuke Ei, and singer Kyu Sakamoto—and the creation of the iconic hit ‘Ue o Muite Arukou’.

The movie features a high-profile cast including Junichi Okada, Tori Matsuzaka, and Taiga Nakano. A new trailer has been released, showcasing the musical drama and the historical atmosphere of the era. The film is scheduled for release on December 25.
