Motor City Cruise Holds $250 Open G League Tryouts in Detroit

The Motor City Cruise, the NBA G League affiliate of the Detroit Pistons, will hold its annual open tryouts on September 13 at the Henry Ford Detroit Pistons Performance Center. For a $250 registration fee, 60‑90 hopefuls can compete in NBA‑style drills and live scrimmages, with the chance that up to three participants will be invited to the Cruise’s training camp in October.

The event follows a viral 2025 tryout that drew widespread online attention for its chaotic on‑court moments. Past participants have turned the opportunity into professional contracts, most notably Southfield native John Ukomadu, who paid the same fee in 2024, earned a training‑camp roster spot, played all 50 games the next season and later won the 2026 G League Slam Dunk Contest. Other alumni include Malique Jacobs, Matthew‑Alexander Moncrieffe, Symir Torrence, Brian Taylor and Ray Williams Jr. General Manager Max Unger and Pistons legend speakers will address the attendees, and each player will receive a reversible tryout jersey and two tickets to a 2026‑27 home game.
