Motor Oil: Second worker dies following refinery explosion

A second worker has died following an explosion at the Motor Oil refinery in Agioi Theodoroi, Corinthia. The victim, an employee of a contracting firm, had been hospitalized with severe traumatic brain injuries following the incident.

In response to the accident, authorities have arrested the head of the contracting company, along with three Motor Oil employees: a foreman, an operator, and a health and safety manager. Investigations are ongoing regarding the circumstances of the explosion, which occurred during preventive maintenance work.

Labor unions have organized protests at the company's offices and announced a 24-hour strike in Corinth to demand accountability and improved safety measures. The Panhellenic Federation of Energy (POE) emphasized that safety protocols must be equally applied to both direct employees and contractors in high-risk environments.
