Motorboat sinks at Wieltsee, causing oil leak in Dreye

A motorboat sank at a pier belonging to a sailing club on Wieltsee in Dreye, causing gasoline and motor oil to leak into the water. Emergency services responded to the incident around 12:10 PM on Friday.

To prevent the spread of pollutants, authorities imposed a no-go zone for vessels near the pier and surrounded the boat with absorbent mesh hose barriers. While a larger oil boom was prepared as a precaution, it was ultimately not required. Approximately 60 emergency personnel, including local fire departments from Dreye and Sudweyhe, drone units, and hazardous materials teams, were involved in the operation.

The Lower Water Authority determined that the vessel had to be recovered the same day. The recovery efforts, supported by various logistics and command units, continued into the evening hours.
