Motorcycle collisions cause multiple injuries in Gabon and Chad

Two separate motorcycle collisions resulted in multiple serious injuries in Makokou, Gabon, and Doba, Chad, on September 16, 2026.

In Makokou, Gabon, a collision between two motorcycles near the Ivindo River bridge left three people seriously injured. The victims include two Gabonese nationals, Vasly Pessy Mahabo and Junior Mouelé Mouelé, and a Cameroonian national, Albert Mangué. The injured are receiving treatment at the Omar Bongo Ondimba Regional Hospital, though medical officials are considering evacuating patients to Ovan due to a lack of X-ray and scanner equipment in Makokou. Local reports indicate a rise in motorcycle traffic in the area, often accompanied by a failure to wear helmets or carry proper documentation.

In Doba, Chad, a collision involving a military member and a civilian occurred on the city’s main paved road. The accident reportedly happened when both motorcyclists attempted to avoid a speeding vehicle. The crash also involved a motorcycle taxi driver and a passenger. Two victims, aged 45 and 50, were treated for moderate head trauma and abrasions at the provincial hospital. Medical staff noted that while the victims are no longer in immediate danger, radiological exams have been ordered as a precaution.
