Motorcycle crash kills rider on BR-174 near Pontes e Lacerda, Brazil

A motorcyclist was killed after his Honda Biz collided with a Toyota SW4 on the BR-174 federal highway about 20 kilometres from Pontes e Lacerda in Mato Grosso. Police reports say the motorbike was riding without headlights and entered the opposite lane, where the SUV driver could not avoid impact. The rider, identified as 25‑year‑old law student Guilherme Santos Freitas, died at the scene; the SUV and its three occupants were unharmed.

The incident adds to a string of fatal crashes on the same stretch of road in recent days, which also saw two workers from a local JBS meat‑packing plant lose their lives in separate collisions. Federal and state police, together with the forensic police (Politec), are investigating the causes of the accidents.
