Motorcycle instructor warns of slippery road hazards in rain
Motorcycle advanced riding instructor Zafer Akçay has warned that road markings, manhole covers, and metal gratings pose significant risks to motorcyclists during rainy weather. These surfaces can cause loss of balance and falls due to reduced traction.
Akçay recommended that such components be manufactured using non-slip materials to improve safety. He noted that painted markings and metal surfaces, which are often added to roads after initial construction, create particularly dangerous conditions when wet.
To mitigate risks, Akçay advised riders to increase following distances to better visibility of road hazards, avoid sudden braking or maneuvers when encountering slippery spots, and maintain the motorcycle in an upright position if crossing such surfaces is unavoidable. He also emphasized the importance of checking tire condition and air pressure before riding.
