Motorcycle market shifts toward electric 125cc and mid-range models

The motorcycle market is undergoing a shift driven by new segments in both electric and mid-range internal combustion engines. Electric motorcycles equivalent to 125cc are being positioned as a potential catalyst for mass adoption. Unlike previous high-cost, high-power electric models, these compact vehicles are more accessible and optimized for urban use, with speeds reaching 95-100 km/h. In Italy, these models are also permitted on highways, making them viable for commuters. For example, the LiveWire S4 Honcho, developed with KYMCO, offers more affordable entry points compared to premium electric models.

Simultaneously, the mid-range market for 400cc and 500cc motorcycles is challenging the dominance of larger displacements. Modern mid-range bikes now feature advanced technologies previously reserved for high-end models, such as ABS, traction control, and electronic throttles. With lightweight designs and sufficient power—exemplified by the Triumph Speed 400—these motorcycles are increasingly viewed as long-term solutions rather than mere stepping stones for beginners. This trend is particularly relevant for riders with A2 licenses, who can operate motorcycles up to 35 kW.
