Motorcycles dominate Dominican Republic vehicle fleet

Motorcycles have become a dominant force in the Dominican Republic's transportation landscape. According to the 2025 Vehicle Fleet Report from the Dirección General de Impuestos Internos (DGII), motorcycles accounted for 57.9% of all registered vehicles in the country at the end of 2025, totaling 3,846,694 units out of a total fleet of 6,640,871.

In terms of new registrations during 2025, motorcycles represented 70.4% of all new entries, with 314,727 units. For many citizens, these vehicles serve as essential tools for work, particularly in the delivery sector, or as a practical means to navigate heavy traffic. While riders face challenges such as heat, insecurity, and road conflicts, the high volume of motorcycles reflects their necessity for daily commuting and income generation.
