13‑year‑old seriously injured after scooter crash in Świdnik, driver flees

A 13‑year‑old girl was severely injured when the electric scooter she was riding as a passenger lost control on Piłsudskiego Street in Świdnik, Lublin Voivodeship, on 28 July. The 15‑year‑old driver, who had borrowed the scooter, failed to wear a helmet and struck a sewer grate, causing the vehicle to overturn. The girl lost consciousness and was taken to a hospital in Lublin with serious injuries. Police located the driver, who was sober, and are investigating the circumstances. The incident prompted police reminders that electric scooters are intended for single riders, that helmets are mandatory and that leaving a crash scene is a criminal offense.
