Motorcyclist killed in bus collision on Cosme Ferreira Avenue, Manaus
A 24‑year‑old motorcyclist, Aldenora Ribeiro Maia, died on Monday, 8 May, after her motorcycle collided with a city bus on line 675 along Cosme Ferreira Avenue in the Coroado neighbourhood of east‑zone Manaus. Police reports say she was travelling toward the city centre when she encountered cones and signage marking a construction zone. She attempted to swerve around the obstacles, lost control and fell beneath the bus.
The bus driver, who asked to remain anonymous, testified: “Quando ela pegou a faixa da esquerda para fazer a ultrapassagem…” and described trying to steer the vehicle to the right to avoid her, but she fell to the left and was struck. Emergency services were called, but Maia died before the SAMU team arrived. The crash caused several kilometres of congestion, a lane closure, and traffic direction by the municipal mobility agency. The incident is under investigation by the Specialized Traffic Accident Police and forensic experts to assess road signage and construction safety.
Authorities will examine the placement of the cones and the conditions of the roadway, while the Institute of Medical Legal Services has removed the body.
