Motorcyclist killed in collision in Ponte della Priula

A 59-year-old motorcyclist, identified as Leonardo Gugel, died following a collision between his Ducati and a Volkswagen vehicle in Ponte della Priula on Sunday afternoon. The accident occurred on via Mercatelli near the Bar ‘Conto su di Te’.

Preliminary investigations suggest the collision happened when the driver of the Volkswagen attempted a U-turn to head toward Colfosco. Emergency services, including an ambulance, medical vehicle, and a rescue helicopter, arrived at the scene, but despite resuscitation efforts, Gugel was pronounced dead at the site. The driver of the car was hospitalized with non-serious injuries.

Gugel was a well-known figure in Nervesa della Battaglia, having previously managed the Erba Matta agriturismo and having run as a local council candidate in 2023. The Highway Police are conducting investigations to determine the exact circumstances of the crash, including the vehicle's maneuver and the motorcycle's speed, to establish potential liability for road homicide.
