Motoristé propose changes to Czech inclusive education system

The Motoristé political group has proposed significant changes to the inclusive education system in the Czech Republic. Their initial proposals sought to allow school principals the authority to reject students with various disabilities, including dyslexia, dysgraphia, mental health issues, and visual or hearing impairments. While Education Minister Robert Plaga initially opposed these measures, a compromise has been reached that includes some of the group's demands. This revised proposal is now being prepared for submission to the Chamber of Deputies.

Education experts, including Lenka Felcmanová, have criticized the proposals, describing the idea of schools rejecting children as inhumane. Experts argue that a complete reversal of inclusion is unfeasible due to the massive costs involved—estimated at 300 billion CZK for new school construction—and the lack of capacity in special education schools. They note that many children currently in inclusive settings only require support for mild learning disabilities rather than full special education.
