Android 17 development advances with QPR2 Beta 4 and Motorola compatibility

Google is advancing the development of Android 17, with the release of the Android 17 QPR2 Beta 4 for Pixel devices. This update marks a 'Platform Stability' milestone, meaning internal APIs are finalized. The beta focuses on critical bug fixes, including resolving thermal management issues that caused reboots, fixing Bluetooth audio routing, and addressing microphone lockups during screen recording. It also introduces enhanced security measures, such as restricting background programmatic USSD requests to prevent unauthorized call-forwarding scams.

Android 17 introduces several functional improvements, including dynamic RAM limits to optimize performance on budget devices by preventing individual apps from consuming excessive memory. Other features include 'Motion Assist' to reduce motion sickness in vehicles, improved multitasking for foldable devices, and enhanced privacy protections like Encrypted Client Hello (ECH) and stricter local network scanning permissions.

Motorola has confirmed that various models from its Razr, Edge, and Moto G families will receive the Android 17 update, with high-end devices expected to be prioritized. The update aims to improve the user experience through redesigned quick settings, improved widget functionality, and easier cross-platform file sharing via QR codes and 'Tap to Share' technology.
