Motorola claims superior smartphone battery cycles as China sets solid‑state battery standard

Motorola says its new silicon‑carbon batteries are built to endure between 1,000 and 1,200 full charge‑discharge cycles before capacity drops to 80 %. Certified models such as the Edge 70, Edge 70 Pro, Razr 2026 series and others reach the higher 1,200‑cycle mark, putting them ahead of current Google Pixel and Apple iPhone phones, which are rated for roughly 1,000 cycles. The figures still trail industry leaders like OnePlus, Nothing, HONOR and Samsung, whose flagship devices are reported to sustain up to 1,300‑2,000 cycles.

China has introduced a national standard that defines when a battery can be officially labeled “all‑solid‑state”. The rule requires a vacuum‑heat test at 120 °C for several hours, with the residual liquid electrolyte limited to less than 5 % of the cell’s weight. The tighter definition aims to curb vague marketing terms and to ensure manufacturers demonstrate real industrial capability. Companies such as CATL, Doctex, Saike Power and state‑owned automaker Dongfeng Motor are adjusting their production plans, targeting pilot lines and larger factories by the mid‑2020s. The new standard could raise electric‑vehicle range by 15‑20 % compared with conventional lithium‑ion packs.
