Xiaomi and Motorola advance new wide-format foldable smartphones

The foldable smartphone market is seeing significant shifts as major manufacturers introduce new form factors. Xiaomi has officially launched the Xiaomi 18 Fold, a “passport-style” device featuring a 7.68-inch internal display and a 5.38-inch external screen. This model is notable for being the first Xiaomi flagship to utilize its proprietary XRING O3 processor and features a robust three-link hinge design.

Simultaneously, Motorola is reportedly developing its own wide-format foldable to compete with industry leaders like Samsung and Xiaomi. Leaked designs suggest a device with a horizontal camera bar intended to improve stability and ergonomics, moving away from the traditional “clamshell” Razr design toward a larger, book-like format. These developments indicate a growing industry trend toward wider, more tablet-like foldable screens that prioritize multitasking and productivity.
