Motorola Edge 2026 to Challenge Samsung Galaxy S26 in Compact Flagship Market
Motorola plans to launch the Edge 2026, a compact high‑end smartphone aimed at users who want a smaller, one‑hand‑operable device without the premium price of Samsung’s Galaxy S26. Analysts say the Edge 2026 could pressure Samsung by offering comparable performance, camera quality and software support at a lower cost, especially in markets such as Portugal where price sensitivity is high.
The shift away from sub‑6‑inch phones is traced to changing consumer habits. As Vitor Bertozzi, Motorola’s head of product, explained, “the main driver is video consumption”; larger screens improve the experience of streaming, social media and gaming. Advances in 5G, more powerful processors and larger batteries have also pushed manufacturers toward bigger displays, while bezel reduction has allowed bigger screens without greatly increasing device size. Although a niche of compact‑phone enthusiasts remains, manufacturers see limited scale for small‑screen models, prompting interest in foldable designs that combine portability with large display areas.
