Motorola and Sony begin Android 17 rollouts for flagship devices

Motorola has commenced the rollout of the Android 17 operating system for its Edge 70 Pro smartphone, starting with users in Europe. The update, which is approximately 3.42GB in size, introduces several functional and visual enhancements, including a redesigned notification panel, improved multitasking, and support for Live Activities. It also integrates Motorola’s Qira AI agent.

Simultaneously, Sony has begun distributing Android 17 to the Xperia 1 VIII in markets including the United Kingdom and Germany. A notable feature in this update is the integration of Quick Share, which allows for direct file sharing between Android devices and Apple’s AirDrop system. Sony has confirmed that five models, including the Xperia 1 VII and Xperia 10 VIII, are slated for the update, though availability remains subject to regional and carrier variations.

In a separate product announcement, Motorola launched the Moto G47 Power in Europe. This mid-range device focuses on extreme battery life, featuring a 7,000 mAh battery and 30W fast charging. It is equipped with a 108 MP main camera and a 6.67-inch 120Hz LCD screen, running Android 16 out of the box.
