Motorola to support GrapheneOS on 2027 flagship devices

Motorola and the GrapheneOS Foundation have announced a partnership to bring official support for the privacy-focused, de-Googled operating system to Motorola flagship devices starting in 2027. This collaboration marks the first time GrapheneOS will expand its hardware support beyond Google Pixel devices.

The rollout will begin with standard, non-folding flagship models, likely successors to the Motorola Signature line, before expanding to next-generation foldable devices such as the Razr Fold and Razr Ultra. These devices will utilize high-end Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets, specifically targeting the Snapdragon 8 Elite series, which provides the necessary hardware security features like Memory Tagging Extension (MTE) and robust secure-element integration required by the OS.

Because current 2026 models lack these specific hardware-level security capabilities, they will not receive retroactive support. The partnership aims to provide long-term software stability, with supported Motorola devices expected to receive seven years of full operating system updates. Motorola is actively participating in the project by providing the necessary firmware and drivers to facilitate the porting process.
