Motorsport Australia accelerates SXS component replacement rule

Motorsport Australia has moved forward a regulation change regarding SXS vehicle component replacement in the Off Road Specific Requirements. Originally set for January 1, 2027, the implementation date for the change to Off Road Appendix 11. 2(g) has been moved to October 1, 2026.

The decision follows an issue identified by the Australian Off Road Commission (AORCOM) concerning current NT1 gearboxes. The updated rule allows competitors to replace an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) component or part with another OEM part from the same SXS model, regardless of the year of manufacture. This change is intended to provide greater flexibility for sourcing replacement parts when identical components are difficult to find.

Under the new requirements, replacement parts must be fitted according to OEM instructions without modification. While minimal chassis modifications to facilitate fitment are permitted, they necessitate a mandatory Triennial Inspection before the vehicle’s next race. This adjustment aims to allow affected competitors to return to competition sooner and participate in upcoming club, state-level, and championship events.
