Motril Port launches Hitachi Energy transformer export service

The Port of Motril in southern Spain has added a new high‑value cargo operation for Hitachi Energy, turning the facility into a logistics hub for the export of large electrical transformers. The Asian industrial manufacturer will use more than 500 m² of dedicated space at the port’s bulk terminal to store transformers built in Córdoba, with shipments dispatched via the A‑44 highway that provides direct, high‑capacity road access. The first unit arrived last week and the initial plan foresees more than five shipments per year, with additional units to follow.

Port Authority President José García Fuentes praised the development, saying it supports Motril’s long‑term diversification strategy and demonstrates the port’s capability to handle complex, high‑value cargoes. The new service is expected to boost activity at the bulk pier, complementing existing traffic from historic clients and adding a new project‑goods line to the port’s portfolio.
